How can we help?

Answers to the questions we hear most often.

What is EnveloPay, and who is it for?
EnveloPay is a mobile-first workforce wages and payroll app for South African small businesses — farms, workshops, construction, cleaning, security, hospitality and households. It's built for owners who pay daily, weekly, hourly or piece workers straight from a phone, not bookkeepers running monthly salaries on a desktop. If you employ between one and fifty people and want their pay to be correct, compliant and on time, it's for you.
Do I need any accounting or payroll knowledge to use it?
No. EnveloPay is built for owners, not accountants. You add your workers once, do a quick daily roll call, and close the pay run — the app does the wage, overtime, UIF and leave maths for you. There's no jargon, no spreadsheet, and no training course.
Is EnveloPay BCEA compliant, and how does it stay up to date?
Yes. The rules of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act — minimum wage, overtime thresholds, public-holiday pay and leave entitlements — are built into the calculations and kept current as the law changes. You don't have to read a Government Gazette; correct, compliant pay is the default. Every pay run also keeps a record, giving you a defensible trail if pay is ever questioned.
How does EnveloPay calculate UIF?
UIF (Unemployment Insurance Fund) is a statutory contribution — 1% from the worker and 1% from the employer, within the legislated monthly earnings ceiling. EnveloPay applies the current rate and ceiling automatically on every pay run and gives you a clear UIF summary. If UIF doesn't apply to a particular business, you can opt out per business in Settings.
Can I run more than one business in a single account?
Yes. You can manage several businesses or divisions under one account, each with its own workers, pay runs and settings, and switch between them with a single tap. Your plan sets how many you can run — 1 on Free, up to 2 on Starter, 3 on Growth and 5 on Pro.
Can I invite other users as managers?
Yes, from the Starter plan upwards. Managers can help with roll call, workers and incidents, but only the owner can approve pay. You invite them by email and assign which businesses they can see. The number of managers depends on your plan (2 on Starter, 3 on Growth, 5 on Pro).
How do plans and billing work — is the free plan really free?
The Free plan is permanent and needs no card — the smallest employer can pay workers correctly at no cost, forever. Paid plans (Starter R89, Growth R169, Pro R299 per month) are flat monthly prices, never per-employee, and annual billing gives you roughly two months free. Paid plans include a 30-day free trial, and you can cancel anytime.
What happens to my data if I cancel or downgrade?
Your data is never deleted. If you cancel or a payment lapses, your account simply reverts to the free-tier limits — your history stays intact. Workers or businesses beyond the free allowance become read-only rather than removed, and everything becomes fully editable again the moment you re-subscribe. There's also a 7-day grace period on a failed payment, with reminders, so an expired card never costs you your workflow mid-pay-run.
